PUNKIN FROM PLUTO
“THE ORIGINAL PEACH BISCUIT”
Whoever said there is no such thing as originality didn’t know Punkin from Pluto. Those who have had an “Original Peach Biscuit” experience can attest to it. Hers is a flavor of its own and is filled with spicy elements of excitement, love, creativity, passion, fun and a warming sense of nostalgia. More importantly, all of this is backed by true artistry in its purest element.
To know Punkin is to know art in many different forms of expression. She is an acclaimed vocalist, writer, poet, and thespian and has become known for intertwining her works creatively in performance. It is this creative fusion of her art that has grown her following over her performance years and made “’The Original Peach Biscuit’ Punkin from Pluto” a hot name on the stages of Houston, Texas.
Since she was a child in the fifth grade, Punkin has been singing her heart out. She joined the school choir and sang every year throughout her school career. Even then her voice was impressive and stood strong in the minds of her classmates and instructors.
Upon her graduation, the doors of the musical world seemed to open for Punkin. Music lit a fire inside her and she yearned to make the next steps toward making a career out of it. As she connected with a group of producers and aspiring rap artist who seemed to share the same passion for music, it seemed that she had found that step.
Her journey down her path as starving artist led her to a new network of artists after the production group split. Gigging with the group at open-mic sessions led her to bookings and introduced her to the idea of management. She had been featured on local TV shows and she’d warmed up to the stage as a singer.
Her hustle was becoming stronger and she was starting to see performing as something real. “I began to see that this could be something tangible,” says Punkin of her beginnings.
But Punkin soon became discouraged with the ins and outs of pushing toward stardom. She was burned out and had yet to really find herself as an artist.
However, it was her burn-out with singing that led her to yet another beautiful gift—she began writing poetry. As she worked the poetry scene and socialized herself, Punkin found poetry to be a more moveable source. People seemed to be more comfortable with it and it was a great outlet for her to open up and become herself. Poetry actually defined the kind of writer, vocalist and overall artist Punkin has become today!
Since then, Punkin has even worked as an actress starring in the film “Deadly Wordz” (2003), a poet-murder mystery that won an award from the Independent Film Festival. Today she is one of the strongest names on the R&B/Soul and poetry stages in Houston—the fourth largest city in the U.S.! Her shows are full of the energy of her artistry. Punkin makes you hear color in her music. You can see the thickness, and taste the sweetness of life in her words. It’s true, there is nothing like “The Original Peach Biscuit”
